Internship Dynaf-site Pascal Geurts
Intern Mechanical Engineering Pascal is doing his
internship at the Dynaf Group from June untill October (2020)
The most exciting and learning experience of my life, is how I would describe my time in Curaçao. I am a mechanical engineer studying at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). During our masters we get the opportunity to follow an internship abroad. My interest lies in the field of sustainable energy, which is why I opted for a specialization in energy technology. Dynaf plays an important role in the field of sustainability in Curaçao. In addition to solar panels, they also recently started selling electric cars and charging stations. This made the company a good match with my own interests. The fact that this company is located in Curaçao, was only an extra reason to go.
Working at Dynaf
Dynaf has an open atmosphere, you can walk into someone else’s office to ask a question anytime. You are free to organize your own schedule and really make it ‘your’ project. You bear a lot of responsibility, so you develop yourself quickly. In addition, you will be assisted by professionals with a lot of experience. This combination helped me a lot in achieving my goals during my internship. Because of this I got to know the business environment in a short amount of time. That is how I also found out where my interests and strengths lie, which was one of the main goals I wanted to achieve for myself.
The assignment
The assignment I received from Dynaf was to provide them with an analysis and to set up a process within Dynaf about warranty claims. This resulted in an analyses of the current situation, in which interviews were held with all managers. Subsequently, an improved process was recommended with specific tasks per department. Finally, a registration tool has been developed to monitor and analyze this process. By planning meetings, I was helped a lot by managers giving me feedback and helped to improve my work. Because my assignment was completed within my internship period, I also experienced part of the implementation. It is satisfying to see that my work is being used within the company.
Personal growth
In addition to the experience you gain in business, you also experience a different kind of growth. By being away for 4 months you also develop a lot as a person. You are more dependent on yourself, which is experienced as pleasant. It didn’t feel like a hard 8 – 5 working day here, this was due to the relaxed atmosphere and friendly people I could work with. Time flew, even during working days! By living in a student house you get to know people well in a short amount of time. This allows you to build strong friendships. All this made my time in Curaçao truly unforgettable!
Sun, sea and beaches
Before I went to Curaçao I was told time flies while being here. At first I didn’t believe them. But they were right, like they say, time flies! I thought 4 months is a long period, but it doesn’t seem to be the case here. With an average temperature of around 30 degrees Celsius and a large amount of beautiful beaches you will never get bored. Despite the fact that I went to Curaçao during the Covid-19 time, there were still enough happy hours at Jan Thiel beach and Mambo to have a drink during the weekend.
Experience the island life
Curaçao has a lot to offer in terms of leisure activities. Besides the popular busy tourist beaches, there are also large beaches in the west coast of Curaçao. An idyllic picture that you normally only encounter on the internet. Curaçao has several beautiful dive sites, which is one of the reasons why I decided to get my diving certificate here. We also went to Klein Curaçao. This is a small island with beautiful nature and great underwater life. During your time on Curacao there are a number of things you must have done before leaving. This of course also includes the Christoffel mountain. After this climb you have a great view over the island. One thing is for sure, I will be back one day!
This internship is more than just work, it is an unforgettable experience!
It’s all about power!
